Below are some important items that HLS teachers need to know about PTSO for the 2020/2021 school year - *some events subject to change due to COVID-19 and virtual learning

  1. PTSO teacher reimbursementthis year will be set at $50 (we will revisit this in January 2021 to determine if there will be an increase). We will still be accepting mini grant requests, but nothing is guaranteed other than the $50 at this point. Please see our website www.highlandlakesptso.com for the correct forms. While we are virtually learning please send via email to highlandlakesptso@gmail.com.

  2. PTSO website has a new look!  It is a valuable resource for teachers, students and parents. Please share the link in all communications with parents! We have also updated our spirit wear and now have a full online store available on our webpage  We also have a Facebook page Highland Lakes PTSO that is kept up daily with happenings going on around the HLS campus.  This is a great resource for parents too.

  3. The PTSO event calendar is upfor the year with a few exceptions. Clearly this calendar is subject to change due to circumstances.  We will try to communicate any big changes from the calendar that evolves through the school year.

  4. PTSO is creating a virtual slide showon the easy ways parents can help contribute to HLS this year!  We can’t stress this enough this school year. Fundraising WILL be difficult so we ask that you please share all the little/easy things that parents can do. We still want to be able to provide support as much as possible for our teachers this school year. We will send you a copy of the slideshow to share with parents after the first couple weeks of school for you to share with parents. Some easy ways for parents to contribute include:

    • Box Tops (some clippings still, mostly scan receipts)

    • Amazon Smile(can now be done through the app under settings, make sure to add it to your personal Amazon account and tell all your friends and family!)

    • Fry’s Community Rewards(easily done through the Fry’s app just add Highland Lakes PTSO to your choice charity, again tell your friends and family)

    • Restaurant Fundraising - Everyone has to eat, so why not help support HLS while feeding their families.

  5. PTSO general meetings will be held the 2nd Friday of each month at 9:00am.  We will be holding our meetings virtually and hopefully move in person once allowed. (Time subject to change while we are helping our kiddos through virtual learning)

  6. The Bear Bucks have a new face and have switched colors.  If you have any green and blue please shred them, they are no good this year.   Mr. Anderson will be on the orange $2 buck and Ms.Ware’s face will be on the yellow $1 buck. More than likely volunteers will not be allowed on campus, so we are currently brainstorming different ideas on how we can still keep this reward system in place, more info to come in the near future.

  7. Favorites -Our teachers and staff are so loved by the parents and students, that the PTSO will continue to compile a list of your favorite things for parents/students to look up when wanting to give a special thanks. We are updating this for our staff this year, so everyone will need to update and resubmit.  Please update here.

  8. The Copy Cats program will be available again this year. You can find a form in the basket in the workroom. The copy cats program will need to be done by PTSO  board members this year until more volunteers are allowed on campus. Please give us a reasonable amount of time to complete your copies.

  9. Bearathon is the most important event of the year! This event lets us support you in so many different ways. With technology being loaned out, it is important for us to continue going strong. Bearahon will look different than the previous years and we are busy brainstorming different ways to make this work. We are actively seeking sponsors for the event

  10. Teachers lounge -Unfortunately we will not be stocking the lounge this year with snacks. This is only because we are unsure how fundraising will go and we would rather be able to utilize any funds for teacher reimbursement and mini grants.
